Our Story
Why Ascain
Lorea's Aitaxi built his house on a hill above Ascain, with the Pont Romain sitting at the bottom of it. Lorea's father grew up on that same hill, neighbored by his aunts, uncles, and cousins. Half our guest list calls this corner of the world home.
We'll celebrate in the village itself: the ceremony on the market square, the town hall two minutes away on foot, dinner just up the road.
The proposal
At the bottom of that hill there's a stone bridge with three arches over the river Nivelle. Everyone calls it the Pont Romain. Some say it dates to the year 450. Nobody really knows. For centuries it was the only way into the village — shepherds used it, pilgrims walking to Santiago used it, everyone used it.
