When to arrive
Plan to be in Saint-Jean-de-Luz by Monday, September 6th. That gives you a few days to settle in, sleep off the jet lag, and see the coast before Thursday.
Coming from the States, budget a full day for the journey itself — leave on Sunday and you land on Monday.
One booking tip: fares are usually cheapest flying out on a Saturday, or on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
Fly to the Basque Country
Most of you are coming from the Bay Area. There's no direct flight, but three airports put you within easy reach of Saint-Jean-de-Luz:
Donostia — EAS
About 30 minutes away, just across the Spanish border.
Bilbao — BIO
A bigger airport with more routes and often cheaper fares, about 1h15 away. Rent a car — or take the bus, but note it stops in Donostia rather than Saint-Jean-de-Luz, so you'd finish the trip by train or taxi.
From the airport
Take a taxi — it's the simplest way into Saint-Jean-de-Luz, especially from Biarritz. Uber does operate here, but there aren't many drivers, so don't build your arrival around it.
By train
From Paris, the TGV runs direct to Saint-Jean-de-Luz–Ciboure in about four hours. If you'd like a few days in Paris first, this is a lovely way down. Book on SNCF Connect — that's the official site for French trains, TGV included.
Once you're here
Stay in Saint-Jean-de-Luz — that's where everyone will gather, and where the wedding-day shuttle to Ascain will leave from. The town is small and walkable; you won't need a car day-to-day, though one is handy for exploring.
